Oldsolar
started life as a two-piece from Glasgow and now have a fluctuating personnel
of anywhere between 2 and 7 members, with a string section and a trumpet
player being among the newest additions. Oldsolar's 2001 debut album,
'Many Visitors Have Been Gored By Buffalo', received widespread critical
acclaim, being described as "frequently beautiful" by the NME,
"a stunner of an album" by The Sunday Times and "a thing
of real beauty" by The Big Issue. Comparisons ranged from pre-bombast
U2 and The Blue Nile through to Mogwai, Boards of Canada and Spiritualized.
Live, they supported The Reindeer Section in Glasgow at the end of 2002
and were described as "Bloody awesome" in The List's review
of the show. The band are in the process of finishing off their second
album, 'In Every Embrace There is Loneliness'.
